The PLIP project has looked into local development policy and its support for innovation processes in peripheral localities. The scope of the project has been a comparison of Nordic innovation policies with special emphasis on small towns and rural areas. Well managed and successful innovation projects were analyzed and special workshops discussed ways in which implementation of “success-stories” can be managed within a new context or country.
In choosing examples of successful innovation projects the final report states: “Good practices were defined as locally anchored, consisting of something extraordinary, an achievement which was expected to have a potential for telling others something, giving them new ideas which they might use in practice.”
